Armand Duplantis surpasses his own world record in pole vaulting, setting a new mark at 6.23m in athletics.

At 23 years old, the two-time outdoor world champion has broken the world record for the seventh time, which he had set at 6.22m in February in Clermont-Ferrand, France.

Le stade champêtre du Hayward field, dans la petite ville de Eugene (nord-ouest), réussit à cet athlète qui est né et a grandi aux Etats-Unis, en Louisiane: il y avait conquis son premier titre de champion du monde en plein air en juillet 2021 en sautant à 6,21 m, alors un nouveau record.

Au premier essai

After covering a distance of 6.02 meters, Duplantis took advantage of the perfect conditions in Eugene (sunny weather, around 27 degrees) to clear 6.23 meters on his first attempt.

Véritable prodige de la discipline, « Mondo », son surnom, Suédois par sa mère, est invaincu en dix-sept compétitions cette saison.

Since bursting onto the scene with a European championship title in Berlin in 2018 at the age of 18, Duplantis has claimed three world titles (including one indoors) and Olympic gold in Tokyo in 2021. After surpassing the record set by Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie (6.17m compared to 6.16m) in February 2020, he has steadily improved his record by a centimeter at a time.

L’ancien athlète de L’Université de l’Etat de Louisiane (LSU) est coaché depuis toujours par ses parents, après avoir appris son art dans le jardin familial. Depuis quelques années il partage son temps entre sa région natale et la Suède.
