Villefranche xiii. Vice-champions en titre, les Loups reviennent sur le pré ce week-end dans leur antre d’Henri Lagarde pour une nouvelle saison que l’on espère aussi fructueuse que la précédente. Face à une équipe de Villegailhenc renouvelée, les Loups veulent d’entrée de jeu marquer leur territoire et se positionner ainsi comme l’un des prétendants à la victoire finale.
Villegailhenc, une équipe renouvelée
The Wolves are starting a new season after failing in the finals last year. They will face the same teams except for Baho, which has been replaced by Palau, another Catalan team.
Although it is supervised by the « veterans » Tyrone Pau (46 years old) and Saia Makisi (41 years old), the 2023-2024 squad of Audois will be significantly rejuvenated. Several players have committed, including Clément Soubeyras, Antoine Gau, Dumont (winger), Arnaud Bastien (center or winger), Bastien Ferré (hooker or 3rd row), Roger Louis (prop), Pierre-Louis and Alexandre Bourrel (Limoux XIII), Enzo Arnaud (fullback – Léopards de Villeneuve), Vincent Syharath (winger – VAL13), Salim Ahcini, Gauthier Berto, Marcelin Gamis. Sascha and Léo Dumontet are also added. Pierre Clanet, Yanis Ahcini, Florian Roger, Gabriel Aubry, Kévin Tisseyre, Valentin Marot, Ludovic Renu, Tely Pelo, Gregory De La Rosa, Loic Banquet, Quentin Nicol are extending their contracts with VARL. Robin Escanuela and Maxime Banquet are returning. From Carcassonne, forwards Yanis Berger, Lucas Rodriguez, Maxime Belondrade are arriving. Alexandre Couttet will be the coach for this new season, replacing Vinnie Anderson.
On the Wolves’ side, it is worth noting the departures of Gabriel Bouscayrol (St Gaudens), Shann Brugel (retirement), Victor Cerezo (retirement), Pierre Fourquet (retirement), Sam Johnstone (return to Australia), Yann Rodriguez (Ille XIII), Loïc Taurin (Rugby Entente du Cabardès), Corey Willis (St Gaudens).
The team will consist of the following new recruits: Jacob Afflick, Simone Boscolo, Lachlan Bristow, Pierre Carivenc, Anthony Durand, Luke Higgins. It will be completed by Yassine Al Ghannoufi, Jérémy Ginestet, Martin Gohon, Enzo Gruppi, Christopher Lafon, Luc Lafon, Vladica Nikolic, Romain Pallares, Alexandre Roux, Kevin Sournac, Nickson Ugaia, Romain Vigroux, Julien Yèche.
The supervision will be provided by David Collado, Bastien Dintilhac, and Christian Lautrette. Julien Larroque will be responsible for physical and video preparation. The medical sector will rely on the ever-present Paul Fraysse, Sylvain Loupias, Chloé Debonne, Nell Michalina, and Dr. Jérôme Savignac. Bernard Auliac will be the water carrier.

The U15 team under the spotlight.
2022-2023: During the Sports Awards evening, the U15 team was awarded the « Collective Trophy » for their title of French Champions in the 9-a-side category. They won this title on the day of the Elite 2 final. Congratulations to the players: Rayane Al Ghanoufi, Paco De la Ballina, Bastien Duteil, Anael Issaly, Tom Marty, Eliot Tournemire, Louis Tranier, and their coach Nicolas Tranier.
