During the free practice sessions of the Singapore Grand Prix, several monitor lizards unexpectedly appeared on the track, temporarily causing inconvenience to the drivers. Fortunately, the reptiles managed to escape unharmed and avoid being run over by the racing cars.
Une image qui va devenir habituelle. Comme en 2016, les pilotes de Formule 1 ont croisé un varan sur la piste du circuit de Marina Bay à l’occasion de la première séance d’essais libres du Grand Prix de Singapour.
Il est possible que Godzilla ait un enfant.
« Il y a encore un lézard sur la piste ! Un plus petit cette fois-ci », s’est exclamé Max Verstappen, double champion du monde, faisant référence au lézard qu’il avait rencontré il y a sept ans.
Gianpiero Lambiase, her track engineer, responded by saying, « Perhaps Godzilla had a son. »
In response, the race management waved the yellow flag to instruct the drivers to slow down and avoid running over the monitor lizard. After two minutes of slowing down at turn 8 in sector 2, the animal was able to leave the track.
The story could have ended there, but about fifteen minutes later, another reptile appeared on the track of the urban circuit at turn 9. Once again, the yellow flags were waved by the track marshals.
Un varan d’environ 1m de long en 2016
In 2016, the varan seen by Max Verstappen was much larger. It measured nearly 1 meter in length.
Une image qui avait déjà fait sourire le Néerlandais. Sept ans après, les retrouvailles se sont une nouvelle fois bien passées puisque le deuxième varan du jour a également pu s’échapper du circuit sans se faire écraser.
