In an exclusive interview with 20minutes, Valérie Pécresse discussed the various proposals to decentralize Île-de-France. These will be put to a vote by regional councilors on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. Among them is a 9% increase in the minimum wage.
On Wednesday, September 20th, the Île-de-France regional council will present its 40 proposals to the State in order to acquire greater autonomy. Based on the recent 3DS law (for differentiation, decentralization, deconcentration, and simplification of local public action), Valérie Pécresse, the council president, aims for a « decentralization shock in Île-de-France ».
« I cannot reword »
The president of the Île-de-France council believes that the decentralization laws and the French system are « exhausted ». However, she also acknowledges that each region has its own specificities: « We cannot act in the same way in Brittany, Corsica, or Île-de-France. They do not have the same issues, job prospects, cost of living, etc. »
Ainsi comme la loi 3DS le permet, Valérie Pécresse souhaite : « oser l’expérimentation, c’est-à-dire des nouvelles politiques à l’échelle d’un territoire et oser la différenciation. »
Un smic « à 9 % ou 8,8 % de plus en Île-de-France »
Among the many proposals that will be presented this Wednesday, one of them is the creation of a « Francilian minimum wage » at « 9% or 8.8% higher in Île-de-France » in consultation with social partners. This measure would aim to take into account the higher cost of living in the Paris region, according to Valérie Pécresse.
« The reality is clear: the level of consumer prices in Île-de-France is 9% higher than the rest of the country. A minimum wage earner who rents a studio in Créteil would spend 51% of their income on it, while it would only cost them 25% in Limoges, » she explains.
