VIDEO. Cyclisme : Christophe Laporte sacré champion d’Europe, une première pour un Français

l’essentiel Le Varois s’est imposé ce dimanche 24 septembre aux Pays-Bas, résistant au retour costaud de Wout van Aert. C’est la première fois qu’un Tricolore empoche ce prestigieux titre.

Christophe Laporte, a cyclist from Var, won the European road cycling championship title on Sunday, September 24th. This is the first time a Frenchman has won this title since the event was established in 2016.

During this online race, which took place in the Netherlands, the Jumbo Visma rider broke away on his own about fifteen kilometers from the finish. Leaving his competitors behind, he managed to hold on, resisting the strong comeback of the Belgian rider Wout van Aert, who came close to catching up with him near the finish line.

« It’s hard to believe, it’s a crazy ending, » he reacted upon arrival. I thought it was going to end in a sprint, and I thought to myself, « start ahead! » It’s amazing to have a jersey like this, I find it hard to believe. I am happy for the French team. »
