« I cannot reword »
One could question whether calls for unity would withstand the current tension. Unfortunately, we have a first element of response. In several cities in France – as well as in the United Kingdom, Germany, or Italy – there have been demonstrations that went far beyond a simple support for the Palestinian cause. More and more voices are rising, not only from the right or the far right, to denounce an enemy within with values incompatible with those of the Republic. On both sides, conflicting currents clash: segments of the population openly express their inability, even their revulsion, to live together.
L’hexagone est pris au piège d’un amalgame l’emportant sur la raison pour reprendre les propos du Président. Samedi, à la Sorbonne, Gabriel Attal rappelait, à raison, que « c’est par l’école que nous parviendrons à bâtir le rempart contre les forces du mal et du néant ». C’est surtout à l’Etat dans son ensemble qu’il incombe de rétablir son autorité et ce, à tous les niveaux (police, justice, immigration, social, etc.), face au radicalisme et aux extrêmes. On ne peut continuer à céder du terrain à ceux qui s’acharnent à torpiller l’idéal de notre devise tout en tirant parti de la générosité de notre modèle. Cette humanité fait notre honneur. Cessons d’en faire une faiblesse.
