Créer des « usines d’intelligence artificielle ». C’est le nouveau projet du Taïwanais Foxconn et du leader américain des processeurs Nvidia. Les deux géants ont annoncé ce mercredi 18 octobre vouloir s’associer pour créer des centres destinés à favoriser l’essor de cette technologie.

Objective? To create « a new class of data processing centers serving a wide range of applications, » emphasized Nvidia’s CEO, noting that Foxconn had « the expertise and capacity to build AI factories worldwide. » These « factories » will be dedicated to the development of « language-based generative AI services » and « platforms for AI-powered electric vehicles, » detailed the processor company.
In practice, this means that customers will be able to use these centers to train industrial equipment or autonomous vehicles, according to the two companies. However, currently, the two partners have not provided any budget or timeline for their project.
Des restrictions à l’exportation contraignantes
L’annonce, faite lors du forum annuel de Foxconn, « Hon Hai Tech Day », intervient alors que Washington a indiqué mardi vouloir restreindre encore davantage les exportations de technologies de pointe vers la Chine, notamment dans le domaine de l’IA. Nvidia, qui a enregistré des résultats financiers records au deuxième trimestre, est directement concerné par cette mesure du Département américain du Commerce.
