The meeting between the Fleury-Salles-Coursan Alliance and the Secular Center of Haut-Vernet in Perpignan escalated on Sunday, October 1st. The Catalan club intends to file a complaint.

A violent fight broke out on Sunday, October 1, following the Régionale 1 match between Entente Fleury-Salles-Coursan and Foyer Laïque du Haut-Vernet (FLHV). Players from Perpignan and supporters from Aude got into a physical altercation, requiring the intervention of the police.

A violent brawl lasting several minutes resulted in four Catalan players being hospitalized, according to our colleagues at France Bleu Roussillon. While the game itself went smoothly, according to FLHV President Benoit Castandeo, the situation deteriorated after the match. He also reported to France Bleu Roussillon « racial insults. » « Several of our Maghrebi and black players were also targeted by these insults. It then turned into a brawl and even became relentless. »

There will be sporting sanctions.

The Catalan club intends to file a complaint. On the other hand, the Entente Fleury-Salles-Coursan, contacted by France Bleu, responded via email: « Complaints have been filed, and the relevant authorities will shed light on what happened. »

The president of the Occitanie league, Alain Doucet, also responded: « Sending people to the hospital for a regional rugby match is a thing of the past. It’s not a matter of pride, it’s a matter of stupidity, excuse my language! There will be sporting sanctions, financial sanctions, it’s inevitable. »
